The game is usually played outside the pub, on a pitch in the beer garden. The dimension of the pitch are 21 yards long measured from the front of the trap, with the trap at one end and the two posts 13 feet 6 inches (4.12m) apart at the other end.
If it is impossible for the pub to provide this area an alternative pitch shall be 18.5 yards (16.92m) long with posts 12 feet 6 inches (3.81m) apart. The posts are usually made of hard wood with a dowel pole of 7 feet (2.134m) in height from the ground to the top.
Alternatively a plasic pipe 1 1/4 inches (32mm) in diameter can be used. The wooden triangle bases are normally 18 inches (45.72cm) in side length and 5 inches (12.7cm) deep.
Alternatively some pubs prefer to make concrete bases with a sleevem which they leave outside all year round only inserting the dowel pole for matches. Also the bases are usually fitted with 4 inch (10.16cm) coach bolts to secure them to the ground.
